When You Let Go of Who You Are

The other morning, as I sat quietly with my tea, I felt the weight of an old story slipping away. It reminded me of Rumi’s words:

“When you let go of who you are, you become who you might be.”

To give birth to your truest self, you must turn inward, soften into your heart, and allow your inner light to shine. At first, this unfolding may feel unfamiliar, even frightening, yet with trust, faith, and gentle perseverance, it becomes the most natural thing in the world.

Throughout our lives, we learn to wear masks—layers of personas shaped by family, culture, and expectation. These masks blur the lens through which we see ourselves, obscuring the brilliance of our authentic, divine nature. And yet, there are precious moments when the mask slips and we glimpse our true selves. In those moments, we taste wholeness. We remember joy.

When we carry these moments close—returning to them again and again—they guide us home to our authentic self. Living from this place requires courage, but it is here that life begins to soften. Our hearts expand, our struggles lighten, and we find ourselves a little more whole, a little more at peace, day by day.

Finding your light and letting it shine is not a single event but a journey. Sometimes it arrives in an instant; sometimes it unfolds over a lifetime. This sacred process is ever-evolving, ever-expanding. It continues as long as we do.

This journey inward asks for daily devotion. Just a few moments each day can open the door. Begin by sitting quietly, watching the rise and fall of your breath. If you like, imagine that we are all doing this together, connected in this very moment. Witness the breath. Welcome the breath. Rest in the breath.

Then, gently repeat to yourself for ten minutes:

  • I am whole.

  • I am love.

  • I am loved.

When you are finished, linger in the stillness. Allow it to seep into you. Let it carry you forward into your day.

Remember: the discomfort you feel along the way is not a barrier, but a sign that your life is expanding, stretching, leveling up. Trust it. Lean into it. Let your light be born.

With love,
xx Lindsay
