Where Your Attention Goes, Your Life Follows
A simple shift in attention opens the door to joy — even on the hardest days.
Grateful Friday — A weekly love note to yourself. A moment to return to your heart.
Grateful Friday: Finding the Silver Lining
This week, I caught myself focusing on what felt heavy.
The to-do lists.
The uncertainty.
The places where things didn’t go the way I had hoped.
And then I paused.
Gratitude has a way of gently interrupting that spiral. It doesn’t deny what’s hard. It widens the lens. It helps you find the silver lining in the smallest things. It brings you back to the only place life is actually happening — this moment.
Whatever you give your attention to becomes more powerful in your life.
If your focus rests on what’s missing, you will feel lack.
If your focus rests on what’s broken, you will feel discouraged.
But when you place your attention on joy, connection, or love — even in subtle ways — those experiences begin to expand.
Happiness doesn’t create gratitude.
Gratitude creates happiness.
So how do we make that shift?
Not by forcing positivity.
Not by pretending everything is fine.
We make the shift by pausing. By turning inward. By asking one gentle question and allowing the answer to rise from the heart instead of the mind.
Even on the darkest days — especially on the darkest days — gratitude can feel more profound. When life feels heavy, even the smallest light shines brighter.
It does take practice.
But it doesn’t take hours.
Just a moment of intention.
Let’s practice together.
Take a long, slow, deep breath in.
Gently exhale.
Silently ask yourself just one of these questions:
What am I grateful for?
Who am I grateful for?
How have I shown up for myself recently?
What am I proud of?
Choose only one. Too many questions keep you in your mind. Today, we’re practicing listening to the heart.
After you journal or sit quietly with your reflection, repeat this mantra:
I am whole.
I am loved.
I am love.
Let those words settle into your body.
As you move into your weekend, carry this practice with you. Notice the small things — your breath, the warmth of your tea, a kind message, your own resilience.
If you feel called, hit reply and share one thing you’re grateful for today. I would love to hear from you.
Much love,
Lindsay
