Gratitude as Interruption

Finding pause and presence in anxious times

Have you ever noticed how hard it is to feel anxious and grateful at the same time?

Not because the world is suddenly safe—but because the nervous system can’t hold panic and presence in the same breath.

These are heavy days. So many of us are carrying fear, anger, and grief for what is unfolding around us and for the people being harmed, targeted, and erased in real time. I don’t always want to speak about it—but I also can’t pretend we aren’t living it.

Today, I’m choosing gratitude not as bypass, not as denial, but as interruption.

A pause.
A hand on the heart.
A conscious breath.

Gratitude creates a moment of spaciousness when anxiety feels all-consuming. It reminds us that even in uncertainty, there are still anchors: breath, community, love, beauty, and small mercies that keep us tethered to our humanity.

Gratitude doesn’t ask us to look away from suffering. It simply softens the grip of anxiety long enough for grace to enter. And sometimes, that pause is enough to help us keep going—together.

Holding us all with care today.

With love,
Lindsay
