The People Who Hold Us
Sometimes, gratitude arrives through another person.
#GratefulFriday
When you feel down in the dumps or find yourself in a funk, what helps you find your way through?
Sometimes, gratitude arrives through another person.
A friend who makes you laugh. A hike in the woods with someone you love. A call from someone right when you needed it—and you didn’t even know you needed it until you heard their voice. A friend telling you how much they believe in you, how clearly they see your gifts.
These moments are so easy to miss. But when we stop and really notice them, something shifts. We remember how much love surrounds us. How deeply we are held.
Let’s try it now.
In this very moment, bring someone into your heart’s mind who has made your life happier—someone who has been there for you, quietly or boldly, who sees you and believes in you.
Breathe into your heart and feel your appreciation for them. Feel how important they are in your life. As you exhale, radiate that love back out.
Stay in that space for a little while.
When you turn your attention toward the people who hold you, something opens. You begin to appreciate yourself, too. Maybe being seen by someone we love helps us remember what they see in us.
And maybe that’s one of the gifts of gratitude: remembering that we don’t move through this life alone.
So—who comes to mind?
Call them. Text them. Send an email. Tell them what they mean to you.
Thank them for just being there.
xo,
Lindsay
