The Quiet Gift of Gratitude
Sometimes all it takes is someone willing to listen—or people willing to simply show up.
#GratefulFriday
This week someone sat with me while I worked through something hard. Something I’d been dreading and carrying around for weeks. He didn’t fix it. He just asked me questions and let me talk. And somewhere in the middle of answering, I felt my shoulders drop. The anxiety loosened. I wasn’t alone with it anymore.
Then this morning, my teachers came in for a photoshoot. Being photographed is hard—it’s vulnerable to stand there and be seen. But they turned inward, trusted their practice, and simply showed up as themselves. Watching them support one another and offer themselves so wholeheartedly filled me with gratitude that’s hard to put into words. My heart felt like it was overflowing. They showed up for themselves, and they showed up for me.
The great secret of gratitude is that it doesn’t depend on circumstance. It’s always within us, and we can turn to it in any moment, no matter what’s going on around us.
Some days we find ourselves bracing against the barrage of worry and stress. To protect ourselves, we close our hearts to the quiet magic of the day. But gratitude invites us to soften instead. To turn inward—to our breath, our bodies, our senses. They guide us home to ourselves, where even in difficult moments, there is always something beautiful waiting to be noticed.
Gratitude is the seed from which everything we need can grow.
What filled your heart this week?
