Try this variation of Wheel, Urdhva Dhanurasana, on a chair to open your heart and lift your spirits
Wheel pose, Urdhva Dhanurasana, can be a powerful pose to open your heart and lift your spirits. When practiced on a chair like this it is challenging because it requires a lot of core and leg strength. It will lengthen your spine, open your chest, and leave you feeling empowered all day.
Try this variation of Wheel, Urdhva Dhanurasana, pose on a chair to open your heart and lift your spirits. You'll want a chair or a bench. This can be practiced anywhere. As you can see I am in the garden using a cute little bench. Being outside in the garden surrounded by flowers, butterflies, and birds will lift your spirits even more.
Start seated on the ground. Lean back on the chair, resting your head on it, and placing your hands on the edge of the chair shoulders width apart. Lift your arches and inner thighs up and engage your lower belly. Draw the muscle energy up through your arms into your heart, bringing your shoulder blades onto your back. Using these actions, lift your hips up and come onto your head. As you exhale, slowly and mindfully, lift up into Urdhva Dhanurasana. Try not to power into the pose. Stay here for 3 - 10 breaths.
To come out, slowly and carefully, lower back down to the ground. Close your eyes and take a few long, slow, deep breaths in and out. Stay in this space for until your breath is slowed down. Try it again, if you would like.
When you come into Wheel Pose like this, from your core, it will more fully open your heart and will leave you with a feeling of calm and joy. This variation is very empowering. Try it let me know how it goes.:)
