The Goodness We Create Together
Grateful Friday: On unexpected kindness, connection, and the goodness we create together
Grateful Friday
This week, I taught an outdoor yoga class at Carl F. Barron Plaza in Central Square, in partnership with the Central Square Business Improvement District (BID).
There we were, in the middle of the city, surrounded by the sounds of buses, conversations, and people going about their day. And right in the midst of it all, we created a little space to breathe, move, and connect.
After class, members of the BID team came over to speak with me. They shared how much they appreciated what Majestic Community Wellness was bringing to Central Square. They wanted us to offer more classes, reach more people, and continue creating opportunities for the community to come together through movement and wellness.
It was an unexpected conversation, and my heart was so full.
I realized how easy it is to forget how special this work is, both mine and that of MCW’s teachers. We show up week after week, and it simply becomes what we do. But it comes from the heart, and they recognized that.
It reminded me how much can grow when people come together around something they believe in.
I’ve been thinking about that conversation ever since.
So much of what we do in life happens quietly. We show up. We give our time. We offer what we can. We care for our families, our neighbors, our friends, and sometimes people we may never see again.
And often, we move from one thing to the next without stopping to appreciate what’s being created along the way.
But every now and then, something happens that reminds us.
A kind word. An unexpected conversation. Someone offering to help. A shared moment of connection.
And suddenly, we remember that even the smallest things we do can ripple outward in ways we may never fully know.
That’s one of the beautiful things about gratitude. It invites us to notice what might otherwise pass us by.
When we allow ourselves to really feel gratitude, deep in our hearts, something shifts. Our shoulders soften. Our breath deepens. Our minds become a little quieter. We feel more connected to ourselves and to the world around us.
After all my years of teaching movement, I still marvel at how closely our hearts, minds, and bodies are connected.
And I’ve come to believe that some of life’s greatest gifts aren’t the things we plan or work toward. Sometimes they’re the unexpected moments that remind us of the kindness and generosity that surround us.
A yoga class in the middle of a busy city square. A conversation that opens the door to new possibilities. People coming together because they believe everyone deserves the chance to feel well, connected, and cared for.
What a beautiful reminder of what we can create together.
So this Grateful Friday, I invite you to notice the goodness around you.
Find the sparkle in everyday moments. Appreciate the people who show up for you, and the opportunities you have to show up for others.
Speak with kindness. Be generous with your encouragement. Let people know when something they’ve done has touched your heart. And take a moment to appreciate the light you bring into the world, too.
Because gratitude isn’t only about recognizing what we’ve been given. It’s also about recognizing what we can give to one another.
With much love,
Lindsay
