Mindfulness and Yoga for Teens – Ages 13 – 18 years with Laura Zittrain

Brought to Majestic through the non-profit, The Yoga Training and Research Institute

Date:  Tuesday - 11/7/19 - 12/12/19
Time:  3:30pm - 4:30pm

Workshop Description

We know at Majestic Yoga Studio that being a teen can be very stressful! Whether it's school, friends, dating - the teen years are full of difficult challenges. Finding a balanced way to deal with stress and worry can be hard. The Mindfulness and Yoga Education (MYE) Program offers a curriculum that fosters personal development in a light hearted and lively group setting. In this hour long class, we will focus on mindfulness training, breathing, yoga, and journaling - all skills that help teens manage stress, anxiety, and worry.

Your child's daily life and important events will be better when they develop the ability to:
• Learn how to label strong emotional states ("Name it to tame it")
• Orienting and "anchoring" to sound, sight and the external environment (an easy way to engage the parasympathetic nervous system when a student is getting stuck in sympathetic/fight-flight arousal).
• Working with the breathing sense in various ways to promote grounding and centering.
• Practicing Yoga and movement to connect to the body and mind in a healthy and safe way.
• Stepping into difficult situations rather than avoid them.

Class is limited to 10 students. No Class 11/28/19.

Full and partial scholarships available.

***This class is held at Harvard-Epworth United Methodist Church.

Laura ZittrainLaura Zittrain

Laura first encountered yoga while working in the tech world of Bangalore, India in 2005. Since then she’s studied around the globe, combining her love of yoga with her studies of the history of artificial minds. After completing her masters in the history of science from Harvard, she embraced her yoga practice, completing her 200 hour teacher training with Lindsay Gibson in 2018. Her teachings closely mirror her practice, focusing on bringing an introspective and playful experience to people of all backgrounds. Her wish is for her students to find an illumination within, using physical yoga practice as a portal to discover that the inner journey is the one with the most profound vistas. After all, each of us has within us all the answers we need.
